Jakub Hošek – Jakub Adamus
Eighties television news was a strange mix of propaganda, bizarro and criticism of the minor vices of the communist regime. Yet it was a mass phenomenon – up to seven million people watched the Television News every day. Today, this world is controversial: some condemn it as a tool of power, others find in it a fascinating aesthetic and an authentic image of the times. Czech Television’s new series, The Editors, provides a view through the eyes of those who created the news of the time. In five episodes, five editors reflect on their role in the system, the limits of their work and what they enjoyed about it all. The programme will feature three selected episodes, accompanied by commentary from the show’s creators. Come see what it was like to be a newsroom caught between reality, propaganda and the desire to do good journalism despite the times.
