De Staat is hard to put into genre boxes. In their work they intoxicatingly mix a variety of styles and are rightly called musical chameleons. They cite Talking Heads, Rihanna, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Michael Jackson, Run-DMC and Soulwax as their influences. The band was formed in 2006 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands as a solo project of Torre Florim, and in 2009 he was joined by guitarist Vedran Mircetic, bassist Jop van Summeren, multi-instrumentalist Rocco Hueting and drummer Tim van Delft.
De Staat have performed at leading festivals such as Glastonbury, City to City, The Great Escape, SXSW, CMJ, Iceland Airwaves, Sziget and Lowlands, won numerous awards and collaborated with legendary producer and sound engineer Vance Powell.
“I know our music is from everywhere,” laughs Florim, “you don’t want to hear how many times we’ve been told by people in the music industry – you guys are unclassifiable! I’m sorry, but we can’t do it any other way, this is exactly how we have to do it. This is our first full tour since 2019, so we’re really excited to get back on stage. We’ve got new songs, new suits and we’re holding the adrenaline of the last two years, this could be dangerous haha.”
