Netherlands 4-piece Banji channels the chameleonic indie stylings of Beck, The Dandy

Warhols or Darwin Deez in matching spiky guitars with 8-bit bleeps and sardonic lyrics.

On October 14th 2022 they released their debut album ‘Freshcakes’ [PIAS]. The album is well received by media such as OOR, 3voor12, MusicMaker (NL), MusikBlog (DE) and Clunkmag (UK).

‘’It is not very often that a debut album sounds so confident and full of character as

‘Freshcakes’. The production is bubbly, the instrumentation groovy and the vocals always full of life.’’ – Clunkmag

Banji treated on a first taste of ‘Freshcakes’ with debut single ‘Listen’ in November 2020. The single was picked up by media like Billboard (US), DIY Magazine (UK), Dansende Beren (BE) and found its way on radio stations like Studio Brussel and featured on the Hot New Bands playlist on Spotify – a playlist for ‘’The freshest sounds from the UK & Ireland.’’

The quartet have already started turning heads in their native Netherlands, with an after

show set for Vampire Weekend, support slot with Belgian icons Balthazar under their belts

and being support for Dutch band De Staat on their European tour. After this they were

ready for their Dutch album release shows performing for packed venues, of which Dutch

newspaper Volkskrant wrote a lovely review stating: ‘Banji stands out above average guitar bands thanks to their original sound’. As icing on the cake Banji performed at 3Voor12’s Song van het Jaar and Eurosonic Festival.
