Mix the energy of The White Stripes with a pinch of Sex Pistols punk-rock, wrap it in a gospel cloak, and you get Barns Courtney. Having toured with icons like The Who, Blur, Ed Sheeran, and The Libertines, his music draws from the darkest corners of the soul. As he admits: “When I’m happy, I find it harder to write songs.”
His debut single “Glitter & Gold” (2015) immediately conquered the UK Spotify Viral Chart and hit number two on the iTunes Alternative Chart. His cinematic sound is a perfect fit for the big screen and television alike; you might have heard “Glitter & Gold” in the trailer for The Founder starring Michael Keaton, or “Fire” in the trailer for Bradley Cooper’s Burnt, and even in a promo for the cult show Top Gear.
Following the success of his albums The Attractions of Youth (2017) and 404 (2019), the musician returned with his most ambitious project to date: Supernatural (2024). On this record, Barns combines gritty rock basslines, glam rock aesthetics, and his unmistakable bluesy scream.
A familiar and beloved face to the Rock for People fans, Barns is returning to the festival and the Czech Republic for the several-th time. And as always, it’s going to be one hell of a ride!
