In a relatively short time, Davina Michelle has not only grown into one of the country’s most well-known singers, but she has also carved out her own distinct place in Dutch music history by staying true to her vision, writing her own songs, and delivering carefully thought-out total concepts. With her 13-track album ‘Higher’, an international club tour and major shows in The Netherlands, she is once again taking significant new steps in 2025.
On her YouTube channel, launched in 2016 and now boasting over 1.6 million subscribers, Davina posted a legendary performance of the P!NK classic ‘What About Us’, which has now garnered tens of millions of views. “Now I know how it’s supposed to sound,” P!NK responded in a video that has also been viewed tens of millions of times, adding that she probably will never sing it as well herself. In August 2019, the circle came full when she opened for P!NK in front of 50,000 visitors at Malieveld in The Hague.
For many, this would be a career highlight. In Davina Michelle’s case, born in 1995 as Michelle Davina Hoogendoorn, it has become more of a footnote in her steadily developing solo career. She has already appeared as a ‘special guest’ on the posters of major international names such as Maroon 5 (in Portugal and Germany) and Robbie Williams (United Kingdom and Germany). With her rendition of Glen Faria’s ‘Duurt Te Lang’, she became the most successful female singer ever in the Dutch Top 40. She toured through the United States and Germany, performed her song ‘Sweet Water’ as the interval act of the Eurovision Song Contest in front of 183 million viewers worldwide, and has become a frequent name on the lineup of major festivals such as the renowned Dutch Pinkpop Festival. She also sold out the Rotterdam Ahoy Arena twice with her ‘HYPER’ shows. The milestones are now too numerous to mention.
