The Hradec Králové Philharmonic was founded in 1978. A significant period of the ensemble’s artistic flowering is associated with the name of Prof. František Vajnar, who worked as chief conductor with the orchestra continuously from 1991 to until 2001, when he was appointed honorary chief conductor of the ensemble. Since the 2018/2019 season, the conductor of the FHK is the distinguished Swiss conductor Kaspar Zehnder.

The FHK has appeared on the stages of major concert halls in Europe (Grosser Musikvereinssaal in Vienna, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Queen Elizabeth Hall in Antwerp, Neue Flora in Hamburg), selected concerts are broadcast by Czech Television, Television Noe and Czech Radio.

The Hradec Králové Philharmonic has long been dedicated to reaching out to younger audiences, blending musical genres and crossover concerts.
