Florence Black is a rock band from South Wales, chosen by Corey Taylor (Slipknot) himself as the support act for his band Stone Sour’s Paris show. The band consists of Tristan Thomas (vocals/guitar), Jordan Evans (bass/backing vocals) and Perry Davies (drums/backing vocals).
The band’s name is not entirely traditional, as it is a woman’s name. Thomas’ father told the band members a story about a woman named Florence Black who delivered coal by bicycle. Her name is also associated with a tragedy in a mining village, where collapsed coal mine waste buried 116 children and 28 adults. The members were so intrigued by this story that they chose the woman’s name as a tribute.
Florence Black is now preparing to release their third album, Pouring Rain, which deals with themes of emotional collapse, resilience, and reflection. The first single is the song “Colored In,” which the members wrote, recorded, and produced themselves. Although they are experimenting with new textures in their new work, they remain true to their original sound based on distinctive riffs.
