Twenty-five years ago, a group of friends got together in Australia, unaware that they would forever change the face of heavy music around the world. I Killed The Prom Queen are not just a band that stood at the birth of metalcore. They literally paved the way for this genre. Without them, today’s famous Parkway Drive or Bring Me The Horizon would probably never have become who they are.
The band will perform at Rock for People in their original lineup. Singer Michael Crafter, guitarists Jona Weinhofen (ex-Bring Me The Horizon and Bleeding Through) and Kevin Cameron, and drummer JJ Peters (Deez Nuts) will celebrate their 25th anniversary and remember their late bassist Sean Kennedy, whose memory will be honored by former singer Jamie Hope.
Since its inception, the band has undergone turbulent changes in its lineup and has announced its definitive end several times. Fortunately, however, it has always managed to return. Their latest project to date is the album Beloved (2014), which they recorded in Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström. Among other things, he also produced their album Music For The Recently Deceased (2006).
The I Killed The Prom Queen show is a nostalgic and unique return to the days when the members were just laying the foundations of today’s metalcore with enormous enthusiasm and passion. Their popularity is also evidenced by the fact that their commemorative tour of Australia last year was completely sold out.
