From their first riffs in a garage to global phenomenon status, Knocked Loose have pushed the boundaries of hardcore far beyond the confines of the underground without letting a single clean vocal into their music. This leaves only one question: how high can a band that refuses to compromise and relies exclusively on screaming climb?
The answer is their latest album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To (2024), on which they venture into uncharted territory. The members weren’t afraid to use a diverse palette of sounds – from a sample that sounds like Tibetan singing bowls to a spoken introduction and a country excerpt. They were also helped in this exploration by guests, namely pop-metal visionary Poppy and Chris “Motionless” Curelli, frontman of metalcore band Motionless In White. Nevertheless, it is still a hardcore album, it is still Knocked Loose, only this time they are exploring new emotions and musical textures.
And this courage is paying off. The hit “Suffocate” earned the band a Grammy nomination for “Best Metal Performance” in 2025, and the entire album reached number one on the UK rock and metal album charts. With over a million listeners per month on Spotify, they are paving the way for their own genre to enter the mainstream.
