Do you know the Czech comedy Bullet Flash? Then you can attend the performance of the Pilsen band Radosta. They combine their alternative-rock original music, accompanied by a saxophonist, with catchphrases from this legendary film from the pen of Zdeněk Svěrák and Ladislav Smoljak in an entirely new way.
Each song tells the story of one character from the film, which moves in the movie. Songs such as “Opera Master Bílek,” “Jechová,” “Inspector Drahota with his wife,” or “Engineer Severín” can thrill a film fan thanks to their notorious catchphrases.
This combination of Czech film and original music is unparalleled on the Czech scene. “We didn’t know until the last moment whether we would get the approval of the film’s authors,” recalls singer and guitarist J.J. Simon. “The negotiations dragged on for more than half a year. Then, finally, the National Film Archive told us that no one had ever used a Czech film to such an extent in music. We are the first. But it was even harder to negotiate and gain the trust of the authors and their descendants.“
The band started working on the project in 2018. This year, their album Dvanáctisměna will be released on the Brno-based Indies scope label. It will be their first visit to Rock for People.
