The Funeral Portrait is the inspiring antidote to stagnant metalcore. They are theatrical, rough, and don’t mince words. “Our band is about standing up for weirdos and misfits. Because we are weirdos, too,” the band says.
The band consists of frontman and founder Lee Jennings, guitarists Cody Wissinger and Gareth Calk, bassist Robert Weston, and drummer Homer Umbanhower. While some of them grew up listening to Avenged Sevenfold and Papa Roach, others were completely hooked on My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. These influences are unmistakably reflected in their work, especially on their debut album Greetings from Suffocate City (2024). It literally bursts at the seams with energetic songs. Danny Worsnop from Asking Alexandria, Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills, and Bert McCracken from The Used also joined them on the album.
The band brings the same energy to the stage. It doesn’t matter if they’re headlining or opening for the stars of their genre. They’ve toured with Skillet, Shinedown, Underoath, and The Rasmus, and are currently on the road with Three Days Grace.
