The Underground Comedy group was created at the turn of 2013 and 2014, when the two founders of the project, Jan Adámek and Tomáš Plhoň, known for example from the theatre group Arte della Tlampač, decided to push the format of stand-up comedy to the Czech Republic. For what reason? They felt that a similar project was still missing in the Czech Republic.
We think that Czech humour is one of the many great characteristics of our nation and we are happy to revive this tradition. Today’s times call for comedians who are not afraid to reveal the harshest truths about our society and ourselves. At the same time, we feel the time is right for a new generation to take the microphones. That’s why we also act as a platform and hold regular open-mic nights to give new talent a chance. Underground Comedy is no longer just about a team of great comedians and friends. We want to establish the genre of stand-up comedy in the Czech Republic. And we are very happy that you, the audience, are letting us know that you are in the same boat with us.
