Ventolin is an electronic project by David Doubek—a founding member of the band Kazety and a member of the theater group Nejhodnější medvídci—who has been active on the electronic scene since 2007.
His career breakthrough came with the release of his second studio album, Vitajte (2017), led by the viral hit “Disco Science.” The music video, directed by Petr Marek (Midi Lidi) and Johana Novotná (Johuš Matuš), utilized the “groundbreaking” green-screen masking technology.
In addition to numerous domestic shows in Czech clubs and festivals of all sizes, he returns annually to Slovakia and Poland. For his live performances, Ventolin uses vintage samplers, analog synthesizers, and archaic drum machines. He is a lover of the primitive sounds of Detroit techno, Italo disco, and an 1880s Indian disco style called “shrumbabumba,” which is played predominantly by slapping one’s palms against a bald head.
David Doubek also lectures on cultural anthropology at Charles University in Prague.
