Music that not only moves you, but that you can influence. That’s game music – and that’s what this special lecture block will be dedicated to, revealing its creation from the first note to the sonic alchemy of the final boss fight. Expect to hear from the experienced composers, sound engineers, producers and creative directors behind hits like Kingdom Come, DayZ, The Last Oricru, Beat Saber and Mafia: Homeland.

What will you hear (and see)?
What does a typical day of a game sound engineer (Jan Knot, Bohemia Interactive) look like? How does medieval Kutná Hora materialize with the help of strings (Jan Valta, Kingdom Come)? What does a composer whose music is interrupted by player decisions have to deal with (Jan Kavan, CBE Software)? And how does one compose a soundtrack that reacts to your every move in combat (Jiri Janouch, The Last Oricru)?
Music is not background. It’s the main player.
Pavel Dobrovsky (Level, Retro Nation) will guide you through the evolution of game music from PC speaker squeals to epic orchestral pieces. David Wurczel (Volcanoids, Warhorse Studios) will show what technologies composers use today, and how creative – yet technical – their work in games must be. And Vladimir Gershl (Cyber Sail Consulting) will offer a view from the other side: how producers and creative directors work with music in development across genres. Supported by a grant from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
