Free entry to the gallery with a ticket to RfP

We have established a partnership with the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové, which will open its exhibitions free of charge for all visitors to Rock for People during the festival. Those who present their festival wristband at the entrance will have free access to all the current exhibitions featuring contemporary Czech artists.

The permanent collections and exhibitions of the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové trace the development of Czech modern art in the 20th and 21st centuries. The GMU is housed in a late Art Nouveau building, which is one of the landmarks of Hradec Králové’s Grand Square. On the fourth floor there is a terrace that provides one of the best views of the city.

Currently there are two unconventionally conceived permanent exhibitions:

The exhibition Last Century – Twenty Personalities consciously returns to an ancient method based on original collections. In selecting 20 specific authors, emphasis was placed on their relationship or connection with Hradec Králové, and thus the region of East Bohemia.

The permanent exhibition The Last Fifty Years presents artists of the middle and younger generations who have only recently made their way into public collections.

At the same time, GMU organizes short-term exhibitions of contemporary art:

The exhibition of Věra Jičínská presents the key aspects of the work of this unjustly neglected personality of Czech modern art. On the basis of a selection of oil paintings, pastels, drawings, prints, as well as little-known photographs, it depicts the development of the artist’s work in the interwar period, when she studied, worked or exhibited in Brno, Munich, Prague, Paris, Brittany, Pětikostelí or Dobruška. It also reminds us of her work in the field of applied art, which she devoted herself to after the Second World War.

The exhibition presents visitors with a cross-section of the work of the Hradec Králové native, painter and world traveler, who translated his fascination with the seen world with its nonsensical poetry into an unmistakable painterly celebration of human society. In the exhibition, the visitor can follow the gradual crystallization of the artist’s pictorial poetics through key works from each decade, which are further complemented by an extensive collection of drawings.

Michaela Vélová Maupicová’s exhibition Noise in the honeycomb, light in the mound presents a selection of short video art works that have so far been presented to the public only marginally.

The exhibition offers a cross-section of the work of sculptor Josef Wagner (1901-1957). It presents the artist’s works in stone, bronze and wood carvings, and visitors have the opportunity to browse through facsimiles of Wagner’s sketchbooks.
